The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) was established in 1974 to better respond to the County's need for affordable housing. HOC is authorized to acquire, own, lease, and operate housing; to provide for the construction or renovation of housing; obtain financial assistance from any public or private source to assist its housing activities; and arrange for social services, resident services, and daycare.
Job Description:
This position is responsible for identify housing opportunities within Montgomery County, Maryland through interactions with property trade associations, local housing department, housing associations, real estate brokers and management firms, housing databases, websites and other resources.
The work involves assisting clients and managing paperwork related to the rental process, including rental applications, criminal records check, security deposits, holding fees, Request for Tenancy Approval form and other requirements identified by landlords and HOC.

Responsibilities:
- Arranging transportation or transporting clients to available units.
- Advocating on behalf of the client and communicating regularly via in-person or virtual meetings, phone, email or text.
- Provide regular reports to the referring source on progress toward housing placement.
- Interpret and explain written information to clients and make referrals for security deposit funds, utilities, moving and storage needs.
Experience:
- At least two (2) years' experience in housing, subsidized housing, or property management.
- At least one (1) year experience working with special subpopulations a plus; homeless, behavioral health or disabilities a plus.
- High School or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years' college or technical training.
- Knowledge of the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program, or the ability to acquire knowledge of the HCV program regulations and procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills with the ability to interact well with people of varied backgrounds.
- Must posse excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.
- Applicant must be able to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
- Must be proficient in database management using Google sheets, and other data management programs.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Word, and Excel).
- Applicant must be knowledgeable of Montgomery County zones and must have a driver's license, good driving record and a reliable car.
