Position Summary:
The Newbuild Strategy Manager leads a team that partners with leaders across the Newbuild department on the most critical challenges facing the business, looking beyond the immediate term and focusing on issues and opportunities including those outside the day-to-day operations.
Together with the Head of Newbuild Strategy, the Newbuild Strategy Manager is responsible for driving multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously, while helping develop and mentor direct reports. Initiatives include strategic planning, Shipyard strategy, internal strategic reviews, development of significant initiatives and continuous improvement projects. This position will plan, design, and successfully execute solutions that impact the department and deliver results, while building strong relationships across the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports and executes the high-level, strategic planning process for the department, continuously aligning strategies and initiatives with broad corporate goals.
- Developing the departments strategic initiatives and responsible for successful LAUNCH of such initiatives
- Ensure we have a clear view of the corporate strategy & what our department needs to deliver
- Competitive analysis and monitoring the industry and our competition to maintain a point of view on our operating and competitive environment
- Primary responsibility for drafting and managing our departmental operating plans
- Continuous assessment of key initiatives to ensure we have the right leadership & resources to enable our goals
- Making sure the corporation is kept up to date and enabling decision making for our programs
- Connection to Newbuild Executive leadership to guide the department strategy
- Serves as strategic advisor and builds strong collaborative relationships with direct reports, business leaders, colleagues and the executive team.
- Brings creative ideas that meet needs, solve problems and drive the department strategy. Manages the creative process and facilitates brainstorming. Open to the ideas of others. Projects how potential ideas may play out in the marketplace.
- Creates a plan that organizes and aligns the portfolio of strategic initiatives. Handles unanticipated events and situations effectively by having alternative plans of action. Efficiently manages multiple demands and competing priorities.
- Identifies new organizational capabilities necessary to sustain long-term competitive advantage and growth.
- Oversees project teams as they conduct independent research and expert interviews, data gathering and analysis, and financial modeling.
- Defines and monitors the key performance indicators (KPIs) for the organization and ensures management reporting and operational reviews focus on results and actions vis-a-vis KPIs.
- Assists with special projects to ensure that appropriate decisions are made with respect to project execution.
- Motivates and engages direct reports, including providing day-to-day direction, mentorship and coaching.
- Identifies new opportunities to add value both within and beyond the scope of formal responsibilities and projects.
- Both the planning and special projects responsibilities are across all brands and the full dimension of Newbuild issues.
Qualifications:
- MBA, Masters in Engineering or similar advanced business degree from a top school required.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in Strategy required, preferably with a top-tier consulting firm, strategic planning function, or corporate strategy group. Experience in cruise or vacation industry desired but not a must.
- Strong business acumen with analytical/quantitative skills, familiarity with one or more statistical/analytical tools and ROI models. Experience with M&A and or equity analysis is a strong plus.
- Analytical rigor combined with consultative approach independently applies structured problem-solving frameworks to define, analyze, and develop alternatives to business problems.
- Strong, demonstrated proficiency in creating and delivering executive presentations to boards of directors, executive groups, and other senior leaders.
- Proven ability to turn findings into executable plans, i.e., taking an idea from concept through delivery.
- Experience managing multiple, competing priorities in a constantly changing environment.
- Demonstrated high level of performance evidenced through annual reviews, bonuses, and recommendations.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to digest and synthesize large amounts of data and information into executive-level reports and documents.
- High degree of confidence and ability to influence others through strong communication skills.
- Executive presence and ability to present complex topics in a clear manner towards executive leadership.
- Knowledge of industrialized business processes for building and innovation.
- Fast learner and able to link diverse sources of information to the cruise business, including ability to handle confidential information and materials with appropriate discretion.
- Knowledge of how value is generated in the cruise industry, as well as in-depth familiarity with key corporate data
