Position: Community Benefits Coordinator

Position Summary:
Union Settlement Adult Education is seeking a Community Benefits Coordinator to provide in person support to East Harlem residents that reports to the Director of Adult Education. Union Settlement's Adult Education Division is a robust cornerstone of Union Settlement's service offerings. Serving more than 600 adults every year, Adult Education offers courses in Digital Literacy, English Language and Workforce Development. This Community Benefits Coordinator position is an exciting new opportunity to lead workforce development opportunities aimed at cultivating professional opportunities, with a particular focus in administrative and bookkeeping positions.
With a primary focus on supporting our ESOL students, the Benefit Coordinator will be responsible for working with approximately 80-100 participants annually, assessing participants' interests, aptitudes and vocational directions to identify and make effective job placements. The Community Benefits Coordinator works closely with Adult Education Case Managers to ensure accurate needs assessments and goal setting is conducted, on a case-by-case basis, for every participant.
The Community Benefits Coordinator will be responsible for creating and nurturing partnerships with local businesses, creating a network of varied East Harlem employment opportunities and establishing and maintaining a database of employment opportunities and other community-based services that can support program participants.
Union Settlement is a performance, data-driven organization. As such, this position is responsible for data collection, monitoring and data entry. The Community Benefits Coordinator will be responsible for following up with employers and participants after the hiring process has concluded to track retention and employment progress.
Career Guidance Responsibilities:
  • Provide participants with job search services, including resume writing and interview preparation assistance.
  • Attend community events to promote Career Training program alongside other Union Settlement programs.
  • Conduct workshops that provide necessary problem solving and life skills training for participants.
  • Develop and manage an Individualized Service Plan (to include unique goals for each student and what supports they will need to be successful), coordinating with participants and other community resources and agencies.
  • Maintain a particular focus on administrative support and bookkeeping positions.
  • Other responsibilities are designated by funding source or program needs.
Community Networking Responsibilities:
  • Maintain linkages with employers to ensure documentation and verification of participant outcomes.
  • Educate prospective employers on relevant program and placement requirements: disability standards as they relate to employment, ADA standards, tax credits, job modifications, etc.
  • Market and deliver on-site job coaching for consumers.
  • Maintain relationships with existing employers and cultivate new employer relationships.
  • Develop a variety of community-based sites for limited time internships that offer different types of career explorations.
  • Organize and develop Career Fairs to aid participants and community businesses in employment opportunities for networking.
  • Collaborate across Union Settlement programs to support referrals and comprehensive service delivery.
  • Other responsibilities are designated by funding source or program needs.
Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Follow-up on referrals made on behalf of participants, and respond to incoming referrals made to the program.
  • Conduct periodic assessments of enrolled participants to determine and track progress.
  • Maintain digital case records and program documentation in accordance with agency and program guidelines.
  • Create monthly program reports illustrating impact and outcomes.
  • Provide referral services to other Union Settlement programs when necessary, as well as to other external resources.
  • Maintain and ensure HIPAA compliance with data and reporting.
  • Responsible for complete, accurate and timely submission of all job orders, referrals, follow-ups and verifications required for the department.
  • Other responsibilities are designated by funding source or program needs.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree with 2-4 years' experience as a Community Benefits Coordinator / Community Out Reach/ Job Developer / Career Counselor/ Employment Counselor, or another related field.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and maintain employer relationships with business and industry with a particular focus on employers providing employment opportunity in various fields, including administrative and booking.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong presentation and networking skills.
  • Must be a team player and have strong work ethic.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PPT, Access) as well as QuickBooks.
  • Field based position, must be able to travel to multiple sites daily as necessary.
