Postdoctoral Research Associate/ Research Scientist
About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY
The Materials for Tissue Engineering (MTE) Laboratory, led by Rebecca Kuntz Willits, is hiring postdoctoral research associate/research scientists to join our research group. Positions are focused early career including the ranks of: Postdoctoral Research Associate or Associate Research Scientist. Successful candidates may become a member of the Mechanobiology Institute, as well as have an affiliation with an academic department commensurate with background and expertise.
The MTE Lab's research is aimed at designing 3D environments that control cell behavior for tissue engineering and mechanobiology applications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in chemical engineering, bio/medical engineering, materials science/engineering, or related field required by appointment start date. The candidate must have significant wet lab experience to design and test natural or synthetic polymeric systems including pre-clinical testing in vitro and/or in vivo. Analysis of biological data, including statistical analysis, through software and programming is required. Candidates from a wide range of academic backgrounds and disciplines are encouraged to apply. At least 2 years of postdoctoral experience is required for the associate research scientist position.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, attention to detail, as well as training in research methodology and quantitative data analysis, are essential to a successful candidate. Experience with writing proposals and project management experience are a plus. Ability to communicate and coordinate with multiple senior researchers from different fields; ability to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship independently; work under the supervision of a senior scholar.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Researchers will be integrated into the vibrant intellectual community of the Institute, including ample opportunities for scientific collaborations, grant proposals, graduate student training/advising, workshops, etc. The individuals filling these positions will also be expected to actively participate in the Institute community by organizing and attending scientific talks, workshops, and conferences.
Researchers will work collaboratively on projects related to characterization of the effect of the microenvironment on neural response. Specifically, the first project will entail investigation of electrical stimulation on glaucoma models. You will perform research (both in vitro and in vivo), analyze and present your findings at relevant conferences and in publication, and write grants on new ideas and topics. The second project seeks to investigate effects of rationally designed biomaterial on nerve regeneration in vivo. Other projects, including independent projects, can be further discussed.
