This role involves the application of effective engineering principles and practices specifically focused on bridge design, site selection, construction, and maintenance strategies. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this role, you will apply sound engineering judgment while comprehensively understanding the design principles, procedures, policies, and criteria outlined in DM-2, DM-4, AASHTO, as well as relevant Commonwealth laws, regulations, and codes. You will be proficient in utilizing various engineering systems and software to conduct stress analyses and design structures using departmental programs. This includes determining the placement of structural steel and culverts, calculating quantities of steel and concrete for proposed bridges, and performing analysis and design work for the rehabilitation of existing structures.You will employ Computer-Aided Drafting/Design (CADD) and Bridge Automated Design and Drafting (BRADD) systems to develop design plans for complete bridge and structural projects, ensuring that hydraulic, soil, and foundation design considerations meet established standards. Additionally, you will review in-house designs, plans, and specifications, as well as inspect bridges to assess the scope of work for rehabilitation projects. Evaluating project site conditions and conducting field measurements will be essential to gather the necessary information for effective structural repair designs.You will organize and schedule work activities to meet project deadlines while mentoring junior team members to enhance their design skills and time management capabilities. You will work independently on non-complex and moderately complex projects, while also collaborating under guidance on more complex assignments. Familiarity with project developments as defined in DM-1A and facilitating public involvement will be part of your responsibilities. You will also learn the necessary paperwork and procedures for project management as outlined in Publication 93 to ensure a smooth transition into management roles. Attendance at meetings and field visits on behalf of your supervisor will be required, along with addressing project-related inquiries in their absence. Furthermore, you will prepare Hydrology and Hydraulics (H&H) reports, permit application packages, Type, Size, and Location submissions, foundation submissions, and final quantities and calculations books.Interested in learning more? Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, upon successful completion of probationary period at the discretion of the supervisor. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Dunmore. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; orSuccessful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee train ng program (commonwealth title); or Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.Special Requirements: This position will require possession of a valid driver's license.Other Requirements: PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
