SCHEDULE: Mon to Fri, 8am to 5pm (Some Saturdays)
PAY RANGE: $24.18 to $29.56/hr

JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant I ensure optimum patient care through the efficient rooming of patients, exhibiting good communication with patients and other staff, performing medical procedures, providing patient education, follow-up care instructions, and completing daily documentation.
KNOWLEDGE OF WORK
Knowledge of programs available to patients (including, Medi-Cal, CHDP, CPSP, Presumptive Eligibility, Family Pact, Every Woman Counts, Sliding Scale)Knowledge of patient demographic information and identifiers, and has constant awareness of insurance information to best assist patientsKnowledge of guidelines for proper cleaning and sterilization of instruments
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for greeting patients into exam room areas and driving a positive patient customer service experienceRooms patients, obtains and documents vital signs including height, weight, BMI, temperature, respirations and blood pressureCollects and documents patient history and current state of healthDisinfects and prepares treatment rooms, equipment and supplies in a timely manner to ensure optimum flowProvides patient education and follow-up care instructionsPerforms panel management and non-visit tasks as assigned by Provider or NurseCreates and distributes an up to date On Call calendar for afterhours Provider coverageWorks closely with providers to provide high quality care to each patient by addressing their health needs and concernsProactively ensure that Provider/MA "huddles" take place on time in preparation for each shiftPerforms routine screening procedures, such as hearing and vision test and document findingsPerforms various medical assistant procedures, including but not limited to: finger sticks for hemoglobin checks; ear washes; nebulizer treatments; urine dipsticks; specimen collection for throat and/or urine cultures; wound cleaning; PPD placement; INR; glucose; HCG; and Hemoglobin A1C (some procedures may not be applicable to all sites)Administers immunizations and documents in electronic health recordEnsures that all logs, forms, records and charts are complete, thorough and accurateDocuments freezer & refrigerator temperature and takes appropriate action to maintain correct temperaturesRuns quality assurance tests daily to ensure proper functionality of equipment for in-house testingPractices standard safety precautions to ensure safety to self, other staff and patients, including handling of contained waste and sharps, and cleaning and disinfecting medical equipment after useCommunicates clearly with providers, other staff and patients to promote optimum clinic flow and proper patient hand off; communicates with Care Team Operations Supervisor on urgent issuesProactively helps teammates during down timeRecommends improvement in processes and practices through the proper channelsPerforms other duties as assigned
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  2. Satisfactory completion of an accredited medical assistant program in California; CA Medical Assistant certification required.
  3. Phlebotomy Certificate required for some locations.
  4. Entry level position up to one year of experience.
  5. Must certify and remain current in CPR.
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills; Bilingual (English/Spanish) language required.
  7. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required.
  8. Computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite, strong data entry skills; electronic health record system required.
  9. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail required.
