Build the future, spark innovation and align your career with purpose.

McKinstry is innovating the waste and climate harm out of the built environment and creating lasting impact. Together, we’re building a thriving planet.

Buildings are a leading contributor to the climate crisis, generating nearly 40% of total global energy-related carbon emissions. We’re making a lasting impact on our industry and within our communities by addressing the climate, affordability and equity crises through:

  • renewables and energy services
  • engineering and design
  • construction and facility services

To get where we’re going, we need big thinkers, problem solvers and collaborative mindsets. Does that sound like you?

The Opportunity with McKinstry:

We are currently seeking an Energy Efficiency Team Lead to support the expansion of our Clean Building Performance Standard (CBPS) team in our growing Technical Services line of business. McKinstry supports clients and their facilities throughout the life of a building; the Technical Service team specifically focuses on the optimization and energy efficiency of existing buildings with a uniquely technical consultative approach. We work directly with owners to help them make effective decisions that improve the efficiency, comfort for occupants and lifespan of their buildings.

This role will specifically support Building Performance Standards such as Washington’s CBPS, Seattle’s Building Emissions Performance Standard and Oregon’s BPS and will be responsible for building upon our existing program, defining processes and leading a team allowing us to scale as these regulations grow across the country.

Team and Project Management

In this role, you will manage and grow the delivery team focused on helping a wide variety of clients optimize their facility operations and energy usage through data analysis, site walks, and hands on consulting. This is an opportunity to bring your management skills, creativity, innovation, and drive for organizational impact as we deliver high impact facility support and drive the evolution of this growing team under your leadership.

Communication and collaboration are a large part of this role, as you will be supporting a variety of projects and working both with our local team in the PNW, as well as coordinating resources from McKinstry teams across the country. Your planning skills will support tactical development and management of resource plans for the team, technical requirements, set milestones and support delivery of projects with excellence. You will also play an integral role in project budgeting, scoping, and team resourcing strategies to maximize client impact while reducing risk. Lastly, you will ensure effective technical response to our clients by your team.

If you are passionate about driving sustainability in the built environment and want to make an impact with your technical expertise, this #climatejob may be the one for you. We are excited to hear from you in the hopes to bring you on not only as a steward of McKinstry but an invaluable member of our team.

Technical Expertise

In this role, you are overseeing a team while also staying connected with direct client facing delivery. Your team will work to process building-level data such as BAS systems, utility bills and operational KPIs and turn it into concrete, actionable recommendations that will drive building operation improvements and energy savings. Bringing a history of experience with diverse building types and systems will be an asset to the team.

People Management

You will be leading a team of individual contributors, and are responsible for resource planning, career support, reviews, and project support as needed. Prior people management is required for this role. We will look to you to collaborate with individuals on your team and partner with other team managers to develop project staffing plans, manage workload, and support recruiting and team growth.
