Salary Range: Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based upon education and credited experience. Initial placement can range as follows: Lab Course - $75.48 up to $103.03 per hour. Lecture Course - $87.88 up to $118.85.

The Position

The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in American Sign Language. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.

This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach courses offered in the American Sign Language curriculum.
  2. Assist in curriculum revisions and new course development.
  3. Consult with students during regularly scheduled office and lab hours.
  4. Maintain expertise in current practice and technologies.
  5. Serve as a member of division and college committees.
  6. Perform other professional duties as required by contract and general institutional needs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possession of any Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience OR an Associate degree and six years of professional experience OR the equivalent.

• Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Willingness to teach evenings and off campus.
  2. Ability to use ASL at or near native-level.
  3. Experience in teaching or preparation to teach at the beginning levels of ASL.
  4. Familiarity with recent pedagogical developments in the field.
  5. Familiarity with deaf culture.
  6. Ability to use teaching methods that emphasize interaction.
  7. Familiarity with and willingness to use technology appropriate to the subject area.
  8. Commitment to the goal of integrating writing skills across the curriculum.
  9. Preparation to teach with a multicultural perspective.
  10. Understanding of and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college.
