The Director of Retail Stores will oversee the overall performance and strategic direction of our growing retail fleet. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing retail strategies, optimizing store operations, and driving sales growth while ensuring an outstanding customer experience. You will work closely with senior leadership to align store operations with the company’s vision and goals. The Director of Stores will report to the VP of Retail.

Roles and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute retail strategies that align with the company’s overall business objectives.
  • Analyze market trends, customer preferences, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Coach field leadership team to ensure alignment with company goals and values to cultivate an engaged, innovative store culture that drives continuous improvement.

Sales and Profitability:

  • Drive sales growth and profitability by setting and achieving sales targets, monitoring financial performance, and implementing effective merchandising strategies.
  • Manage district and store P&L’s, define priorities, and drive operational improvements and efficiencies by identifying opportunities and partnering cross-functionally, aligning strategies with budgeted targets.

Customer Experience:

  • Ensure a superior customer experience by maintaining high standards of service, addressing customer feedback, and resolving issues promptly.
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve the in-store customer experience and selling culture.
  • Implement customer service initiatives and best practices to enhance satisfaction and loyalty.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop District Managers, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Partner with District Leaders and HR partners to develop a roadmap for talent and culture in our stores.

Operational Excellence:

  • Implement and monitor store processes and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and productivity.
  • Collaborate with the merchandising team to optimize product placement and store layout.
  • Analyze sales data to provide feedback and recommendations on product assortment and inventory levels.
  • Ensure all retail stores comply with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Ability to manage multi-store responsibility with an emphasis on driving results.
  • Ability to travel weekly 2-4 days at a time, 3 times per month including overnight travel.
  • Demonstrated strength as a data-driven, analytical and problem-solving solver.
  • Strong leadership ability, with a track record for building high-performing and highly engaged teams.
  • Proven ability to build internal partnerships and trust across all levels of the organization to deliver major initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, presentation, and follow-through skills.
  • Able to work during West Coast office hours.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years of relevant experience managing across multiple US-based retail stores.
  • Knowledge of KPIs, P&L management, and operational standards.
  • Clear, concise, and transparent communication style, both verbal and written.
  • Experience in results-oriented, collaborative, high-growth environments with agile, resourceful capabilities.
  • Experience building, implementing, and iterating on new processes from the ground up.
  • Experience building and implementing a store selling or service model.
  • Proven track record of launching new store openings.
