The Database Administrator is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of the organization’s databases. This role ensures data integrity, security, and availability, while optimizing database performance and supporting data-driven decision-making processes.

The salary range for this position is $69,545-$103,888/year, please note this is a tiered position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Design, build, implement, and maintain relational databases.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and recovery protocols are in place.
  • Maintain compliance with standards such as the Data Protection Act and CMMC.
  • Control and manage access permissions and privileges.
  • Develop, manage, and test database and data management systems.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance and data connectors.
  • Generate and schedule reports using reporting systems.
  • Create and manage database extensions and enhancements.
  • Oversee data flow and ensure accurate data processing.
  • Identify and implement process improvements for database operations.

Level-Specific Responsibilities (may include but not limited to):

Level - I

  • Support the IT team by writing and executing simple database queries to retrieve and manipulate data.
  • Use basic tools to monitor database health and performance, reporting any anomalies to senior team members.
  • Assist in performing routine backups and recovery tasks to ensure data safety and availability.
  • Maintain and update database documentation, ensuring all changes and configurations are well-documented.
  • Identify and resolve minor database issues, escalating more complex problems as needed.
  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and stay updated with the latest database technologies.

Level - II

  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries to improve database performance and support application development.
  • Implement performance tuning techniques to optimize database performance, ensuring efficient data retrieval and storage.
  • Develop and enforce database security policies to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Automate routine database tasks using scripts and tools to improve efficiency and reduce manual workload.
  • Develop and test disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity in case of data loss or system failure.
  • Manage data integration processes between different systems, ensuring seamless data flow and consistency.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior DBAs, helping them develop their skills and knowledge.

Level - III

  • Design and implement complex database architectures to support business needs and scalability.
  • Develop long-term strategies for database management and growth, aligning with organizational goals.
  • Lead efforts to optimize database performance at an enterprise level, ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements and standards, leading audits and implementing necessary changes.
  • Implement and manage high availability and failover solutions to minimize downtime and ensure data accessibility.
  • Develop and enforce data governance policies to maintain data quality, integrity, and security.
  • Lead the DBA team, provide advanced training, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance overall database management.

Minimum Qualifications:

All levels:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
    • Experience may be substituted for education on a 1:1 basis.

Level - I

  • Zero (0) to Three (3) years of work experience in database administration with strong analytical skills.

Level - II

  • Three (3) to Seven (7) years of work experience in database administration with strong analytical skills, specialized training and/or an advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience.
  • Ability to write code in SQL, Python, or other appropriate languages to map data from one database platform to another accurately and efficiently

Level - III

  • Seven (7) to ten (10) or more years of work experience in database administration with strong analytical skills, specialized training and/or an advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience.
  • Ability to write code in SQL, Python, or other appropriate languages to map data from one database platform to another accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to mentor and/or start managing staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or similar.
  • Proficiency in managing databases on cloud platforms like Azure.
  • Strong skills in scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automating database tasks.
  • Proven experience in advanced performance tuning and optimization techniques.
  • Experience in implementing and managing high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and experience with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
  • Experience in managing database-related projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring.
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets and provide actionable insights.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with Dataverse, Data Factory, Enterprise Reporting, SQL, and PowerBI.

Physical Demands (including but not limited to):

  • Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 20 pounds – maintaining files and documentation requires stooping as well as carrying and/or lifting materials.
  • Work requires computer usage with strength, dexterity, coordination, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and video display terminal and other office equipment.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. or as needs dictate
