Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced MQ Admin to join our team. As an MQ Admin, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our messaging infrastructure, particularly related to the FIX protocol. The position involves both understanding the intricacies of FIX applications and managing the associated MQ environment.
FIX Application Understanding:
- Gain a deep understanding of the FIX protocol and its application within our organization.
- Familiarize yourself with the message format, including how messages are structured using tags.
- Modify messages to create additional input volume as needed.
- Simulate input volume using FIX simulators.
- Configure and manage the FIX simulators.
- Debug issues related to FIX simulators and the overall application.
MQ Administration:
- Understand the FIX/MQ configuration thoroughly.
- Validate the configuration to ensure optimal performance.
- Monitor MQ queues during testing and production.
- Troubleshoot any MQ-related issues that arise during testing.
- Provide effective solutions to address MQ-related challenges.
Technical Proficiency:
- Strong knowledge of the FIX protocol.
- Familiarity with Java or Python programming languages (helpful but not mandatory).
- Experience with message-based systems and protocols.
- Understanding of message queues and their role in distributed systems.
Problem-Solving Skills:
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues promptly.
- Analytical mindset to identify bottlenecks and optimize performance.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Work closely with development teams, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical team members.

Percentage of Time Spent on FIX vs. MQ Administration:
- FIX Application Tasks: Since there's no active application development (as the FIX protocol and software are provided by the vendor), the time spent on FIX-related tasks will likely be minimal. Let's estimate around 5% of the workday.
- MQ Administration Tasks: During testing and validation, MQ administration will be more significant, accounting for approximately 20% of the workday.
Coding Tasks (Examples):
- Creating FIX Data: You'll write code to generate FIX messages for testing purposes. This might involve creating sample orders, modifying existing messages, or simulating various scenarios.
- Modifying Simulation Scripts: Customize existing FIX simulators or create new ones to simulate different market conditions, order flows, or error scenarios.
- Round Trip Processing Time Programs: Develop programs to measure the time it takes for individual transactions to complete their full cycle (from order submission to acknowledgment and back)
