SUMMARY

Responsible for ensuring compliance with corporate environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures to reduce work-related injuries.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Ensures that federal, state, and local safety & environmental laws, regulations, codes, and rules are observed and recordkeeping and reporting requirements are met.
  • Manages all environmental issues, including regulatory compliance, hazmat training, hazardous waste disposal, emergency response, and documentation.
  • Monitor and inspect the facility and its equipment to ensure compliance.
  • Educate employees on safety standards and expectations as well as safe machinery operations.
  • Conducts air quality tests, hazardous waste profiling, and noise level monitoring as required by federal regulation.
  • Acts as a point of contact in absence of Manager, Health, Safety and Facilities, o the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA), Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), Arizona Department of Occupational Health & Safety (ADOSH), Maricopa County Environmental Services Department (MCESD) and City of Mesa Industrial Pre-Treatment Section.
  • Monitors all required environmental permits, including the Non-Title V Air Permit, RCRA Subtitle C, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), and Zero Process Wastewater Discharge Permit, to ensure that the required permit conditions are met.
  • Assists with administering the workers’ compensation claims program; ensures timely processing of claims; evaluates accident reports to determine accuracy and completeness and to provide adequate investigation; ensures that the corporation complies with applicable laws and regulations; and develops accident prevention programs.
  • Administers federally required occupational health programs, such as hearing conservation programs, hazardous material worker physicals, and respiratory protection programs.
  • Conducts accident investigations to identify patterns of injury and determine whether unsafe conditions contributed to the accident; advises departments of trends in injuries and proper safety procedures that may result in injury reduction; provides departments with information that will aid in reducing accidents and improving safety.
  • Implements the safety program to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions. Examines plans and specifications for new machinery or processes to determine if all safety precautions have been included.
  • Coordinates safety and first aid training to educate workers about safety policies, laws, and practices.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of safety laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills required.
  • The ability to understand and follow instructions and the ability to concentrate.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with some experience with Microsoft Project and Access.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to get along with others or to be part of a team.
  • Access to Export Control Information.
  • Regular attendance.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • AA/AS degree in a compatible academic discipline and 1-3 years of job-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
