Director of Payroll

Job Summary
SHOE SHOW, INC., the country’s largest privately held footwear retailer, in business 64 years with more than 1,000 stores in 47 states, is seeking an experienced Director of Payroll to join our team! This position is located on-site in our Corporate Headquarters in Concord, N.C. Local candidates are encouraged to apply!

What you should know:

The Director of Payroll will manage all aspects of the Payroll department and has a deep understanding of and progressive experience in payroll management, accounting principles, and payroll-related compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience managing a Payroll team for a large, nationwide employer. The Director of Payroll will report to the Chief Financial Officer.

What you will do:

• Manage day-to-day payroll and benefits functions for 10,000+ employees in 47 states.
• Ensure accurate and timely payments to all company employees.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws regarding Payroll.
• Ensure accurate and timely submission of all monthly, quarterly, and yearly labor and payroll reporting.
• Manage relationships with and monitor the effectiveness of all payroll-related service providers and assess needs for change.
• Proactively partner and collaborate with stakeholders such as Human Resources, Legal, Benefits, IT, Finance, and third-party service providers to ensure seamless, compliant practices.
• Develop additional payroll procedures and controls and ensure streamlined preparation, documentation, and disbursement of payroll-related payments.
• Implement new approaches and automation, policies, and procedures that result in continuous improvements in efficiency of services performed.
• Oversee payroll audits.
• Reconcile weekly and bi-weekly deduction registers.
• Adeptly manage, train, and mentor employees in the Payroll Department.

Preferred skills and abilities:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
• Current experience using UltiPro.
• Certified Payroll Professional (“CPP”) certification.
• Eight (8) or more years experience managing a large team.

Job Type: Full-time

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Day shift
• Monday to Friday
• Overtime
• Weekends as needed
