Director of Sourcing

SMV Recruiting is actively seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Director of Sourcing for an established manufacturing client in Vernon, CA. Our client has an annual revenue of $250M and commodities you would focus on include sheet metal, fabrication parts, extrusion, aluminum, steel, metal, gaskets, and various hardware. This is a turn around opportunity and you will have the chance to build your team from the ground up. In addition, you will be responsible for overseeing a global supply chains, implementing dual sourcing strategies, ensuring efficient supplier selection and management, and establish best practices and metrics.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Sourcing Leadership: Develop and execute comprehensive sourcing strategies to optimize costs, quality, and delivery for commodities worth $200M+. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align sourcing initiatives with business objectives and operational requirements. Continuously assess market trends, supplier capabilities, and industry innovations to drive competitive advantage
• Global Supply Chain Management: Oversee and manage global supply chains to ensure uninterrupted material flow and mitigate supply chain risks. Identify potential supply chain disruptions and implement contingency plans to maintain operational resilience. Optimize lead times, inventory levels, and transportation logistics for enhanced efficiency
• Dual Sourcing Strategies: Implement and manage dual sourcing strategies for critical commodities to diversify supply and reduce dependency on single suppliers Evaluate supplier capabilities and capacity to ensure seamless production continuity
• Supplier Evaluation and Performance Management: Develop and implement supplier scorecards and performance metrics to assess supplier performance. Collaborate with suppliers to address performance gaps and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Conduct regular supplier performance reviews and establish improvement action plans
• Contract Negotiation and Management: Lead contract negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable terms, pricing, and service level agreements. Draft and review contracts to ensure compliance with legal and company requirements. Monitor contract performance and address any contractual issues or disputes
• Change Management and Process Improvement: Lead change initiatives within the sourcing function to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Identify process improvement opportunities and implement best practices and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Budget Management and Financial Objectives: Develop and manage sourcing budgets aligned with company financial objectives. Track and report sourcing-related expenses and cost-saving initiatives.
• Team Building and Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing sourcing team with clear roles and responsibilities. Foster a collaborative and supportive culture that encourages innovation and professional growth

Requirements

• MBA or Master's degree preferred, law degree is also considered
• 15+ years of relevant experience in strategic sourcing, preferably in a large corporation within the heavy machinery industry
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to build and lead high-performing teams
• Prior experience working in a VP role is highly desired
• Demonstrated experience in raw material sourcing and procurement
• Hands-on involvement in implementing SAP Ariba
• Strong negotiation and contract management skills
• Innovative problem solver with a proactive and flexible mindset
