Labor Relations Specialist

Position Description:
Under the direction and supervision of the Executive Director of Human Resources and Legal Counsel, the Labor Relations Specialist is accountable for performing a wide range of labor relations activities.
The summary below describes the general nature and scope of work performed in this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Assist with coordinating labor relations contract proposals;
  • In cooperation with the Executive Director, advise district administration in matters of contract interpretation and/or employee discipline;
  • In cooperation with the Executive Director, conduct grievance meetings with district administration and union officials as the hearing officer and respond to such grievances accordingly;
  • Assist in coordinating labor relations activities to assure consistency of policies and procedures and uniform interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements;
  • Assist the Executive Director with providing training to the district and school administrators and staff on federal and state employment and labor laws
  • In cooperation with the Executive Director/Legal Counsel, ensures compliance with collective bargaining agreements, employee rights laws and regulations, and carries out responsibilities under the supervision of the Executive Director/Legal Counsel.
  • Assist with tracking and responding to FOIA requests;
  • Partner with Executive Director to proactively resolve employee relations issues, HR investigations, grievances and disciplinary proceedings;
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director/Legal Counsel, provides support and direction for workers' compensation and district unemployment programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools, the Executive Director/Legal Counsel, and/or the Board of Education.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes, and regulations;
  • Knowledge and experience working with collective bargaining units and interpreting collective bargaining agreements, statutes and regulations;
  • Knowledge and experience handling employee disciplinary matters and conducting human resources investigations;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and research issues as necessary;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, or related field with 3-5 years' of experience in human resources administration or labor relations.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills with aptitude in problem solving
  • Experience with handling human resources and labor relations matters include interpreting collective bargaining agreements;

Days: Monday - Friday (40 hours/week)
Bargaining Unit: Position is unaffiliated
Work Year: 12 Months/52 weeks

Compensation: $91,500
