The Main Responsibilities

Lumen’s Architecture Engineering & Technology organization is looking for a Network Engineer Intern on our amazing team. This position will participate in the testing and development of detailed network growth and evolution plans in support of High-speed Internet services over DSL and GPON (Fiber) technologies by providing top-tier testing support of new product and services for Lumen.

Other responsibilities of intern will include:

  • Conduct on-site testing of Optical Line Terminals (OLT’s) and Digital Subscriber Line’s (DSLAM’s).
  • Ensure network equipment operates at the required standards.
  • Work on small automation projects and interoperability testing to ensure compatibility between in-home gear and network equipment.
  • Partner with Senior level Architects to assist in certification projects for deployment of Access Network equipment into Lumen’s Network.

What We Look For in a Candidate

Program eligibility is contingent on the candidate’s commitment for the entire 10-week program. No exceptions will be made.

Required qualifications

  • Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior level education status at the start of the internship.
  • Graduating August 2025 – May 2026.
  • Preferred fields include but not limited to: Telecommunication, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering/Computer Science.
  • Intern must be able to work 40 hours per week during the 10-week program (May 30 – August 8, 2025).

Proficiency and understanding of:

  • Programming and Automation skills specific to scripting with Perl and Python to create re-creatable automation utilizing knowledge of the network equipment under test.

Preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with xDSL gateway equipment.
  • Expertise in configuring a full end-to-end High-Speed Internet services or In-Home Router Configuration (PPPoE, or DHCP authentication).
  • Knowledge and Expert-Level experience in various Operating Systems Environments (Windows, UNIX, Solaris, and Linux).
  • Knowledge and Expert-Level experience in various forms of network security (ex. SSL, HTTPS, IPsec, VPNs, etc.).

Compensation

Internship compensation ranges depend on each individual’s level of education, geographic location, and experience/qualifications aligned to the role.

Hourly Based Pay Range:
Min: $26.00/hour
Max: $43.00/hour
