Summary

The CEO has overall responsibility for creating, planning, implementing, and integrating the strategic direction of the credit union. This includes responsibility for all departments, functions and processes of the organization. The CEO makes certain that the organization's leadership maintains constant awareness of both the external and internal competitive landscape, opportunities for expansion, customers and markets, as well as new industry developments and standards.

The CEO serves at the discretion of the Board of Directors yet is delegated full responsibility and general control over the administration and operation of the business of the credit union.

Responsibilities

  1. Creating, communicating, and implementing the organization's vision, mission and overall direction. Leading the development and implementation of the overall organizational strategy.
  2. Leading, guiding, directing, and evaluating the work of other leaders based on the credit union’s reporting structure.
  3. Soliciting advice and guidance, when appropriate, from the Board of Directors.
  4. Formulating and implementing the strategic plan that guides the direction of the business or organization.
  5. Overseeing the complete operation of the credit union in accordance with the direction established in the strategic plan(s).
  6. Evaluating the success of the organization.
  7. Representing the organization for civic and professional association responsibilities and activities in the local community, the state, and at the national level. Demonstrating the leadership necessary to make the organization's mission a success.
  8. Direct all credit union operations; plan, recommend, and implement programs and policies; direct staff personnel and provide general administrative direction.
  9. Make certain all legal and regulatory obligations of the credit union are met; maintenance of sufficient liability insurance for all risks which the credit union is subject to; ensure all required reports of the supervisory agencies are currently and timely filed; comply with state and federal labor laws; operate within legal rights granted by our charter and the State Credit Union Act or the Federal Credit Union Act, whichever is applicable.
  10. Oversee loans to members – seeking to obtain consistent growth while granting sound, collectible loans with terms that accommodate member’s needs consistent with sound financial strategies.
  11. Implement the credit union investment policy in accordance with Board direction; safeguard funds and valuables in custody; maintain fiscal solvency of the credit union.
  12. Plan, organize, and staff the credit union to accomplish the objectives of the organization. Develop and maintain proper internal environment to assure maximum efficiency in implementing and maintaining credit union policies and procedures and assure effective member relations.
  13. Hire, promote, and discharge personnel. Ensure that appropriate salary structures are developed and maintained. Control salary structures in accordance with credit union salary policy.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience, MBA or related advanced degree preferred.
  2. 10-15 years previous financial institution executive leadership experience.
  3. Prior credit union experience ideal, management of multisite organization preferred.
  4. Proven leadership ability to set clear priorities, delegate and guide resource investment in people, systems & facilities; keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making.
  5. Excellent coalition building skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders; a persuasive negotiator able to achieve consensus among differing opinions.
  6. Outstanding presentation and communication skills with the ability to be a spokesperson and relationship builder.
  7. Strong commitments to the professional development of staff; successful track record of recruiting and retaining a diverse team.

Physical and Mental Demands

  1. Constantly required to sit, hear, talk, write, read, keyboard/computer entry, reach, stretch, work under time constraints with needed ability for task management flexibility and to perform routine duties with attention for details.
  2. Constant abilities used/required on the job are mathematics, memory, reasoning, estimating, problem-solving and exercising judgment.
  3. Occasionally drive a car or work extended hours.
  4. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  1. Constantly works with others, around others and with members and the public. Constantly works indoors, in confined areas and is exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
  2. Frequently works around noise (moderate level). The employee must have the ability to focus on tasks and members while listening to teller machines, conversations of others, coin sorter, music, phones etc., in a confined area.
  3. Infrequently the employee works alone and works near moving objects. The employee is also infrequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
