What Will You Do?

The Program Director is responsible for daily operational oversight and performance of the Thompson Placement Stability Unit (TPSU) in Raleigh/Wake County communities. The Program Director will lead a team of professionals focused on supporting youth in DSS Custody who either have a history of placement instability, are in an unstable placement, or meet specific criteria indicating a high risk for future placement instability. Success will be primarily measured through three core data points: financial performance data, staff retention/engagement data, and program outcomes/quality data.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proactive coaching and feedback to ensure professional development and growth of direct reports
  • Setting programmatic objectives, defining roles, and prioritizing tasks for direct reports
  • Effective proactive communication in all directions (up, down, sideways) to ensure program needs are met
  • Recruit, interview, and select top-tier talent for their program staff
  • Conduct thorough and well-documented assessments of direct report's performance
  • Proactively address performance issues and replace team members who consistently fall short of delivering on their objectives
  • Create an open and trusting environment where teamwork and collaboration are valued
  • Compliance with the agency's Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process to ensure program data and outcome goals are met
  • Ensure internal and external standards are met regarding records, documentation, and general services provided
  • Act as a role model across the organization for other staff regarding professionalism, positivity, and teamwork
  • Respond and address any client/parent/guardian complaints/concerns
  • Serve as a liaison among Thompson, DSS, and other essential stakeholders.
  • Ensure services are provided in accordance with the TPSU four-phase model.
  • Provide a comprehensive suite of services that include 24/7 on-call coverage.

LEADERSHIP VALUES, TIME APPLICATION AND SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

  • Leaders of others should primarily value: getting results through others (instead of doing themselves), judging success by the success of direct reports and the unit, and displaying visible integrity at all times.
  • Leaders of others should spend the majority of their time on the following: annual planning, making time for direct reports, performance management, developing their team and recruitment.
  • Leaders of others’ skills that they must display to be successful at this level include: planning, job design, delegating, coaching/giving feedback, performance management, creating rewards and motivation, and communicating/climate setting in their programs.

What qualifications do you need?

Must have a valid Driver’s License and meet any credentialing, licensing and privileging standards as it pertains to the program(s) they lead. The education requirement for a leader of others in programs is a master’s degree. Supervisory experience preferred.

As a Leader of Others, this role’s minimum qualifications are:

  • Master's Degree with 3 years of work experience as a high-performing individual contributor in Child Welfare or related Human Services field
  • Exposure to leadership/management experiences either through short-term project management, coordination, training or actual leadership positions
  • Displays the capacity/coachability for future growth and development as a leader with an advanced degree in social work or a comparable human service field and two years of post-master degree experience working with children and families, preferably in family preservation and stabilization
