The Opportunity:
As a Certified Medical Assistant at Pine Park Health, you will support our primary care providers in delivering quality care to patients at Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE). Your role will involve both clinical and front desk tasks, ensuring smooth clinic operations and a positive care experience for elderly residents. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and a compassionate approach when working with residents and their families.
Hours: Typical M-F, 8:30am-5pm, w/ occasional opportunity to take on additional shifts
Location: Onsite at Friendship Village, Phoenix Arizona
Front Desk Tasks:
  • Manage patient check-in and registration, verify demographic and insurance information, and ensure all necessary forms are completed accurately.
  • Coordinate patient appointments, manage the provider's schedule, and arrange follow-up visits, considering urgency and scheduling constraints.
  • Handle telephone inquiries from patients, families, and other healthcare providers, ensuring effective communication and appropriate routing of calls.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using Electronic Health Records (EHR) or paper-based systems, ensuring all clinical documentation is completed in a timely and precise manner.
Clinical Tasks:
  • Prepare patients for appointments, including setting up a sterile mobile work area in patient homes, gathering accurate medical histories, and coordinating with patients' Durable Power of Attorney (DPOA) and families as needed.
  • Perform vital sign measurements such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and weight, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Provide patient education, offering information about medical conditions, treatment plans, and medications while offering support within the scope of practice.
  • Perform phlebotomy, including blood draws and labeling specimens. Ensure proper handling, preparation, and transportation of samples to the laboratory as required.
  • Collect other laboratory specimens, such as urine samples and perform point-of-care (POC) testing.
  • Carry out general medical procedures, including injections, EKGs, dressing changes, and suture removal under physician supervision, in accordance with training and legal requirements.
  • Assist in care coordination by collaborating with other healthcare professionals, such as specialists and pharmacists, to facilitate referrals and meet patient care needs.
  • Support virtual urgent care setup, assist with in-person patient check-ins, and manage communication with remote care teams.
  • Maintain a clean, sterile, and safe clinical environment, adhering to infection control protocols and restocking supplies as needed.
  • Additional responsibilities as designated.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency.
  • 3-5 years of clinical experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, common medications, procedures in primary care, vitals, phlebotomy, wound care, injections, POC testing, EKGs, etc.
  • Comfortable and adaptable with technology, enjoying working with new platforms and tools such as Elation, Slack, Monday.com, Talkdesk.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively communicate with staff, vendors, and patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of clinical and back office experience in a primary care setting.
  • Must not be on any exclusion or debarment from participation in Federal Health Care Programs and must maintain good standing with government regulators such as the OIG and CMS.
  • Must be up-to-date on immunizations.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • Environmental Conditions: Normal medical clinical work environment at one of our largest partnered Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) communities.
  • Some travel may be required for supply pick up/delivery and lab specimen drop off.
  • Physical Requirements: Manual and finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and ability to use department equipment.
  • Occasional exertion of 30-50 lbs. of force may be required for tasks such as handling medical equipment and lifting computers/laptops.
  • Ability to remain seated in a stationary position for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to walk while carrying daily items or medical supplies (phlebotomy, etc) for 2-3 blocks.
