Head of Reserving - Financial Lines & Specialty

We are looking for a Head of Reserving – Financial Lines and Specialty to manage the reserving process for assigned business units, conduct reserve-related projects in collaboration with other reserving leaders, and lead a team of actuaries.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Lead the execution of quarterly analyses of gross and net reserves for business units with current gross reserves of $1.5 billion.
2. Manage and develop staff responsible for performing reserve reviews for assigned business units (currently three actuaries).
3. Coordinate quarterly close activities with Argo’s accounting group, as needed.
4. Prepare materials used in quarterly reserve meetings and provide input to other reporting processes (Reserve Committee meeting material, quarterly reserve position walk, etc.).
5. Communicate results to business leaders, the Chief Underwriting Officer, and the Chief Claims Officer.
6. Interact with pricing, underwriting, claims, and finance areas to improve processes and communication between the areas.
7. Continuous improvement of data, processes, and reports to increase the efficiency of the reserving and close processes and associated reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
2. FCAS designation.
3. 15+ years of property/casualty insurance experience, with 10 years specifically in reserving.
4. Excellent interpersonal/communication skills and committed individual/team work ethic.
5. Ability to effectively interact with the executive team and peers in actuarial and finance.
6. Ability to motivate others.
