ROLE SUMMARY

The Global & US Medical Channel Content Lead is a key member of the Medical Engagement & Impact (MEI) leadership team in defining on a global scale for all business units in Pfizer an end-to-end medical communications and content strategy across the Oncology, Internal Medicines, Specialty Care, and Vaccines portfolio to optimize the engagement and reach of emerging scientific information on Pfizer medicines. This role aligns closely with Global Medical Affairs Categories, Evidence Generation Teams, and other key cross-functional partners. The team plans, conceptualizes, develops, and disseminates medical content through publications, congresses, customer interactions, digital channels, and other newly prioritized Pfizer owner or 3rd party medical channels through a team of Sr. Directors and a total team size of around 100 colleagues.

To this end, the Global & US Medical Channel Content Lead will:

  • Lead and be accountable for the cross-functional planning, conceptualization, production, and dissemination of Global & US medical content, including publications, plain language summaries (PLS), congress content, medical-to-medical content, and content for other prioritized medical channels.
  • Develop strategies with Global Medical Categories / GMATs, Medical Planning & Impact Leads, Medical Channel Excellence colleagues and US teams to ensure all medical communications and content are developed in alignment with therapeutic area strategies and regulations.
  • Define strategies with the International Medical Communications and Content team, and the Medical Channel Excellence team, to ensure cascade of materials to prioritized markets & channels both within & beyond the US.
  • Through a team of Sr. Directors and a total team size of around 100 colleagues, this role is accountable for disseminating medical content in coordination with MEI Field Medical Excellence, Medical Channel Excellence, International Medical Content and Communications, Medical Academy and the Medical Analytics teams.
  • Develop strategy to drive content generation capabilities / partnerships using new technology platforms such as Generative AI for enterprise-wide implementation.
  • Manage and expand capabilities for offshored medical writing services responsible for medical communications and content creation across therapeutic areas.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic and operational content creation leadership within Global Medical Affairs
  • Define strategic and operational vision for Global & US Medical content production across all Pfizer medicines and therapeutic areas (TAs), with a focus on speed, efficiency and impact.
  • Ensure alignment of TA scientific narratives and priorities in close coordination with Medical Categories and other MEI teams.
  • Ensure appropriate allocation of medical communications and content resources to evolving priorities.
  • Represent MEI Global Medical Communications and Content strategy at executive and leadership forums both internally and externally to drive strategic decision-making and advancements.

Lead production of Global and US medical communications and content across all Pfizer medicines/TAs, including:

  • Planning and conceptualization through building scientific communication plans (SCPs), scientific narratives, and global medical channel content plans across all TAs.
  • Develop medical communications and content across TAs: publications, PLS, congress exhibit content, social media, digital platforms (3rd party and Pfizer-hosted), and content for new priority medical channels.
  • Align with the Global Medical Categories on all TA/medicine content plans and executions, while ensuring strong coordination across other MEI verticals.

Oversee accurate and compliant global content production across prioritized channels.

  • Leverage CoLab agency model and offshore Medical Writing Services capabilities to develop all content and ensure scale and efficiency.
  • Manage agency selection as needed, and ensure established templates/best practices are utilized across all therapeutic areas.

Finalizing medical communications and content for review and dissemination:

  • Collaborate with the Medical Review Excellence team to ensure scientific and medical accuracy and compliance with Pfizer SOPs.
  • Disseminate content either directly or via distribution to MEI International Medical Communications and Content, Medical Channel Excellence, and Field Medical Excellence teams.

Spearhead development of new content creation capabilities:

  • Drive and implement advanced generative AI capabilities to create, update, and personalize content, ensuring responsible use.
  • Develop capabilities utilizing newer technologies to increase productivity and efficiency in content creation.

Leadership of US/Global Colleagues and Culture:

  • Accountable to develop a compliant culture that drives the Pfizer Values and Actionable Attitudes.
  • Oversee and ensure accountability for US/Global PX-related processes, including equitable interviewing and hiring practices, Annual Goal Setting and Semester Reviews, Annual Compensation Process, and Talent Planning & Growth Strategies.
  • Act as a leader and advocate for culture, wellness, and engagement.
  • Steward the Purpose Blueprint, Pfizer Values, and Actionable Attitudes, ensuring these behaviors are exemplified by vertical line leadership and at all levels of the US/Global organization.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
  • Advanced scientific degree required (Masters, PharmD/PHD).
  • Strong experience (18+ years with Masters; 15+ years with PharmD/PHD) in pharmaceutical medicine, including medical affairs, medical compliance, and management experience.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working in cross-functional business environment.
  • Proven leadership skills in managing both colleagues, teams and projects both directly and via a matrixed or indirect leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to quickly build rapport and credibility with Pfizer leaders and key external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success partnering cross culturally/regionally.
  • Proven track record of managing colleague growth and development and performance matters.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication with flexibility to be clear, consistent, compliant, and appropriate for a variety of settings including scientific/technical, promotional, patient/consumer, regulatory, and media.
  • In depth understanding of the business of pharmaceutical medicine including clinical trial design, GCP and data interpretation, drug development, regulatory and promotional rules/guidance, legal and compliance, issue management and business development opportunity evaluations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years of demonstrated leadership/management experience.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $262,100.00 to $436,800.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 30.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
