Position Title: Safety & Security Manager

Classification: Full-time, Exempt

Reporting to: Human Resources Manager

Department: Operations

Role Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Safety & Security Manager to join our team. This key role will focus on supporting our operational teams through the management of safety and security programs that ensure the protection of employees, customers, and the public. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing food safety protocols, employee training initiatives, and auditing processes, while continuously improving the safety culture within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance:
    • Manage and update food safety programs (HACCP and GMP), ensuring compliance and filling any program gaps.
    • Provide food safety training to relevant staff and stay informed on evolving regulations, including the Food Safety Modernization Act.
    • Lead the Food Defense Program by conducting semi-annual evaluations and ensuring facility audits are completed bi-annually.
  • Auditing & Documentation:
    • Oversee internal audits and participate in external third-party audits, including those conducted by customers and regulatory bodies (e.g., FDA, USDA).
    • Review and update audit-related documentation annually and work with management to identify root causes of non-compliance.
    • Track corrective actions from audits and ensure timely responses from operations teams.
  • Training & Development:
    • Organize and manage the new hire safety and operational training programs.
    • Provide specialized training for forklift operation and safety as well as recurring training for employees.
    • Collaborate with department heads to identify skill gaps, retrain employees as needed, and create/update SOPs and training manuals.
    • Oversee annual training and ensure all records are properly maintained.
  • Process Quality & Continuous Improvement:
    • Establish a rotating quality audit schedule to ensure compliance across all shifts (day, swing, and graveyard).
    • Report audit results to management and assist in the retraining of employees based on audit findings.
    • Partner with managers to update standard operating procedures (SOPs) to enhance performance.
  • Safety Leadership:
    • Actively participate in the Safety Committee, proposing safety enhancements and leading initiatives aimed at improving overall safety metrics.
    • Organize annual safety campaigns with a focus on reducing accident rates and improving safety key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Metrics & Reporting:
    • Develop and maintain metrics to track the effectiveness of employee training programs.
    • Regularly distribute reports on training progress to operations and management teams.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years in warehouse, distribution, or facilities operations, preferably within the food industry.
  • Experience managing safety programs and compliance in a dynamic environment.

Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with HACCP, GMP, OSHA, Workers' Comp, DOT, and food safety regulations (FDA, USDA).
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Transportation Management Systems (TMS).

Technical Competencies:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Lean manufacturing experience is preferred (5S, Root Cause Analysis, Continuous Improvement).

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion. Regular movement between office and warehouse environments (including refrigerated/freezer sections) will be required.

Work Environment:

This role will involve time spent in both office and warehouse settings. Temperature changes will be common, especially when transitioning between refrigerated and ambient environments.
