Daytime Circulation Supervisor
Department: Lipscomb Library
FLSA Classification: Full-time hourly, non-exempt

Job Description
Summary/objective
The Daytime Circulation Supervisor provides circulation assistance to library patrons; hires, trains, and supervises student assistants in performing appropriate library services; partners with the Research & Instruction Librarian and the Director of the Library to provide outreach services to the Randolph College community including maintaining the library's social media presence, signage, and displays; maintains the reserve collection for faculty courses.

Circulation & Reserves Duties
  • Hires, trains, and supervises library student assistants
  • Provides circulation and reserves assistance to library patrons
  • Places items requested or owned by faculty on and off reserve
  • Opens the library (M-F) and closes and secures the building on Friday afternoons
  • Maintains and updates the library's presence on multiple social media platforms
  • Plans library displays and coordinates with other library employees to plan outreach events
  • Monitors and stocks the library's tea closet
  • Creates library signage
  • Maintains library equipment in circulation areas
Other Duties
  • Pursues continuing education for library and general office environment
  • All other duties as determined by the evolution of the position

  • Able to work independently, set priorities, and follow through on projects in a multi-tasking position

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization. Able to interpret various instructions.
LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read a variety of books, magazines, instruction manuals, and equivalent materials. Ability to prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Ability to communicate distinctly.
Travel required
Travel is infrequent, and primarily local to the Lynchburg region with occasional trips for meetings within Virginia

  • High School diploma, undergraduate degree preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google applications

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
