Background

Catholic Charities of South Carolina (CCSC) is a statewide agency founded in 1945 to serve those most in need. Called by Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church, CCSC promotes dignity, ministers to the spiritual and physical needs of those under our care and acts to break the cycles of poverty. Serving over 50,000 people a year, we change lives by meeting people where they are and accompanying them on their journey.

South Carolina has an average poverty rate of 14%, higher than the national average. In some counties, the poverty rate is over 36%. The state struggles with the continued impacts of generational poverty, substance abuse, homelessness, educational inequalities, and racism. At the same time, South Carolina is growing quickly, particularly along the coast and in the cities. It is becoming increasingly necessary to meet the diverse needs of our growing population.

With 30 staff members and an annual budget of $3.7M, CCSC is poised to grow and meet the challenges facing residents of the Palmetto State. It is our responsibility to lead and organize the Catholic response to the issues facing South Carolinians.
