Position Summary

The Senior Data Scientist in the Ads team at Sam's Club, a division of Walmart Inc., occupies a pivotal role in supporting and advancing Machine Learning (ML) implementations that drive innovative advertising solutions. This position is essential for developing ML models and algorithms that enhance ad relevance, targeting, and performance, thereby improving member engagement and driving revenue growth across eCommerce platforms and in-club promotions.

As a Senior Data Scientist, your expertise will be crucial in the entire lifecycle of ML product development in the Ads domain - from conceptualization to deployment. You will collaborate closely with a team of ML Engineers, Software Engineers, Product Managers, and other Technologists. This role provides a unique opportunity to leverage your deep analytical skills and knowledge of machine learning to influence advertising strategies, integrate advanced ML algorithms, and challenge conventional approaches to achieve ambitious business objectives.

Our mission is to refine ad interactions across Walmart and Sam's Club platforms, ensuring each advertisement is not only relevant but seamlessly integrated into the customer journey, thereby significantly enhancing user engagement and simplifying their decision-making process.

What You'll Do

  1. Develop backend ML models that power sophisticated AI-driven advertising solutions, contributing to more relevant and engaging member experiences.
  2. Partner with product and engineering teams to inform, drive, and expedite innovations in advertising through insights, advanced analytics, and ML prototypes.
  3. Manage the full project lifecycle, from data collection and model building to prototyping and deployment, while ensuring effective communication with stakeholders across functions.
  4. Establish an MLOps framework for the continuous development, testing, and deployment of data science algorithms, enhancing the personalization and effectiveness of ad campaigns.

What You'll Bring

  1. Proficiency in developing and deploying large-scale ML models, particularly in the areas of ad targeting, relevance, and ranking systems.
  2. Experience with public cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud for deploying scalable ML solutions.
  3. Expertise in programming languages (Python, Java, Scala) and familiarity with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn).
  4. A solid understanding of MLOps practices, including design documentation, unit testing, integration testing, and source code management with tools like Git.
  5. Agility in navigating project management and tracking tools (e.g., JIRA), with a passion for solving complex problems in a high-impact retail environment.
  6. 6+ years of experience in relevance domain or technologies.
  7. Industry or research experience in digital advertising, marketing personalization, recommendation systems, or related fields.
  8. Knowledge of causal inference, A/B testing, multi-variate testing, and advanced analytical techniques.
  9. Familiarity with advertising targeting and measurement technologies, digital marketing analytics, and platforms like GCP, BQ, and Elastic/SOLR/Vector Search.
  10. Experience in building scalable, resilient systems for customer-facing applications and optimization techniques.
  11. Proficiency in MLOps architecture tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Airflow, Kubeflow) and experience designing and implementing APIs in a Python stack.

Minimum Qualifications

  2. Master's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  3. 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
