The Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP) seeks an academic geriatrician to assist the department in teaching medical students and residents in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics Diseases. Other duties include:

  • Providing clinical patient care in Geriatrics Internal Medicine in the hospital and clinics
  • Providing Grand Rounds and lectures
  • Assisting with curriculum development
  • Participating in clinical medical science research
  • Performing administrative duties and University service as assigned

UICOMP is one of the three regional campuses of the University of Illinois College of Medicine. UICOMP's educational programs include 244 medical students and 300 residents/fellows in 21 different postgraduate programs. The Department of Medicine's faculty teach at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, a tertiary care facility serving a 37-county region with a population of over 2 million people.

Position Summary

The incumbent will direct patient care and supervise instruction.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Direct patient care on inpatient units at our University-affiliated hospital
  • Direct patient care in our departmental outpatient clinic
  • Supervision and teaching of internal medicine residents and medical students
  • Functioning as a University faculty member, performing such duties as are appropriate to academic rank and position

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD/DO or equivalent
  • Board certified/eligible for certifying examination of the American Board of Internal Medicine or comparable certifying authority
  • Eligible for licensure in Illinois
  • Eligible for medical staff appointment at university-affiliated hospital
  • 3 years experience in geriatrics
  • Experience in inpatient and outpatient internal medicine/geriatrics
  • Experience in working collaboratively as a part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Interest in providing high-quality education
  • Collaborate with resident physicians and medical students on research projects
