POSITION PURPOSE
The Claims Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the claims process for General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Auto, and Property Damage claims. This role involves coordinating with legal and risk management departments and ensuring compliance with regulations and company policies. The Claims Manager will drive strategies to minimize liability exposure and optimize the claims process for efficient resolution.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Claims Management:
  • Oversee the management and resolution of General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Auto, and Property Damage claims.
  • Ensure timely investigation, evaluation, and settlement of claims while minimizing financial exposure.
  • Monitor open claims and take necessary actions to expedite closure.

General Liability Claims:
  • Oversee the investigation and resolution of general liability claims, including third-party bodily injury, property damage, and slip-and-fall incidents.
  • Work with legal teams to ensure proper defense strategy and litigation management.
Workers' Compensation Claims:
  • Manage and coordinate Workers' Compensation claims, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Collaborate with medical professionals, legal teams, and vocational rehab specialists to support injured workers' return to work.
Auto Claims:
  • Supervise the handling of auto liability and physical damage claims, including subrogation and uninsured motorist claims.
  • Coordinate with fleet management to ensure efficient handling and resolution of claims related to company vehicles.
Property Damage Claims:
  • Manage property damage claims including fire, flood, theft, and vandalism.
  • Coordinate inspections, evaluations, and work with repair vendors to resolve claims effectively.
Risk Management & Mitigation:
  • Collaborate with risk management to identify trends, mitigate exposure, and develop strategies to reduce claims frequency and severity.
  • Provide regular reports on claims trends, costs, and reserves to upper management.
Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:
  • Ensure all claims processes comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and workers' compensation laws.
  • Stay updated on changes in legislation and best practices in claims management.
Vendor and Legal Liaison:
  • Manage relationships with external partners, such as legal counsel, third-party administrators (TPAs), medical providers, and vendors.
  • Oversee the performance of TPAs to ensure efficient claims processing and resolution.
Financial Responsibilities:
  • Oversee claims budgeting and forecasting, ensuring adequate reserves are set for outstanding claims.
  • Monitor settlement authority levels and approve settlements within designated limits.

Safety
  • This position is considered a safety-sensitive position and is subject to the company's drug and alcohol policy, as well as all OHSA regulations.
  • All employees must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Serves as a safety ambassador by complying with federal, state, and local laws, as well as Company safety policy, enforces safe work practices, and proactively identifies and remedies worksite hazards.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • This position operates in a professional office environment that routinely uses standard office equipment requiring the ability to communicate in person and over the telephone with other employees, the ability to interpret printed materials and a computer screen, the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, the ability to lift and carry supplies and files weighing up to 10 pounds and to move about the inside of the office to access supplies, office machinery, etc.
  • May be required to work on a project site and if so, would be exposed to all weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • Employee might be exposed to various chemicals, vapors, pollutants, virus or other air-borne pathogens, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines and dust/debris.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  • This is a full-time position. Occasional overtime may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
  • Minimal travel required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Work Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED or sufficient experience required.
  • 3+ years of experience managing General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Auto, and Property Damage claims.
  • Strong leadership and people skills.
  • Knowledge of claims handling, litigation processes, and insurance regulations.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to utilize claims management software and reporting tools.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check is required.
