We are currently seeking entry level civil engineers for hydraulics/water resources engineering in our Raleigh, North Carolina office. In this role, the engineer will work on a multi-disciplinary team developing hydrologic analysis, hydraulic design and stormwater management compliance in development of construction contract plans and documents to support federal, NCDOT, other State DOT agencies, and Municipal Localities transportation projects.
Responsibilities:
The Hydraulics/Water Resources Engineer will participate in the planning and design of hydraulic drainage and water resources needs of transportation related projects. The primary duties will be to support senior engineers and managers in a variety of tasks in the field of hydraulics/water resources design. Responsibilities will include supplemental field reconnaissance of existing drainage/hydraulic conditions, open and closed storm drainage system design, cross pipe analysis and design, erosion and sediment control design, SWM water quality/quantity design, permitting drawings and impact documentation, assisting development of HEC RAS hydraulic/hydrologic stream analysis including scour analysis design for major structures (>20' wide) multi-celled reinforced concrete box culverts (RCBC), and bridge opening determinations, assistance with HEC-RAS stream analysis and modeling for FEMA FIS Detailed Flood Studies in compliance with NCDOT MOA's, FEMA Conditional Letter of Map Revisions (CLOMR) and FEMA Letter of Map Revisions (LOMR) policies and procedures, final contract documents preparation for construction plans, specifications, special provisions, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or other relevant degree
  • 0-4 years of relevant experience
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred
  • Knowledge with NCDOT hydraulics policies and procedures a plus
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally/written at all levels of the organization
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others
  • Design software experience (MicroStation/GEOPAK Drainage/Open Roads Drainage) a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • General knowledge and experience with GIS data a plus
  • Knowledge of/experience with PDF Editing a plus
  • Familiarity and experience with HydroCAD, Civil3D, HEC-RAS, various Hydraulic Engineering Circulars (HEC's) for scour, stream and bank stability, roadway stability and stream scour/stability countermeasure design including but not limited to HEC-18, HEC-20 and HEC-23, or other hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software a plus.
