Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Windows POS Device Technician/Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. This role is crucial in managing, configuring, and troubleshooting our fleet of Windows-based point-of-sale (POS) devices across multiple locations. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills in Windows operating systems, including Windows 10 LTSC and LTSB, Windows 11, device imaging, and configuration management for various POS devices and Windows tablets.

As a Windows POS Device Technician/Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of our POS systems. Your expertise will be instrumental in creating and maintaining Windows images, implementing security measures, and optimizing system configurations to support our diverse restaurant operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manage and maintain Windows-based POS devices across multiple locations
  2. Create, test, and deploy Windows images for POS devices
  3. Configure and optimize Windows settings for POS applications and security
  4. Troubleshoot and resolve Windows-related issues on POS devices
  5. Evaluate and remediate Windows security vulnerabilities from periodic scans
  6. Develop and maintain documentation for POS device configurations and processes
  7. Collaborate with IT and operations teams to ensure POS device reliability and performance
  8. Manage wireless functionality for Windows tablets
  9. Apply strict security measures and policies to clean Windows images from vendors
  10. Identify and implement strategic improvements to security measures within the OS
  11. Work effectively as a team member and proactively suggest improvements

Required Experience/Skills

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  2. 5+ years of experience managing Windows-based systems, preferably in a POS environment
  3. Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems, particularly Windows 10 (LTSB & LTSC) and Windows 11
  4. Deep understanding of Group Policy (as Active Directory is not used on POS terminals)
  5. Experience with imaging and deployment tools
  6. Familiarity with remote management and monitoring tools
  7. Experience with Windows Embedded Shell and Windows DISM tool
  8. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  9. Excellent technical documentation abilities
  10. Strong communication skills

Nice-to-Haves

  1. Microsoft certifications (e.g., MCSA, MCSE)
  2. Experience with POS software and hardware
  3. Knowledge of retail and/or hospitality IT operations
  4. Familiarity with networking concepts and troubleshooting
  5. Experience managing Windows tablets and their wireless functionality
  6. PowerShell and batch scripting skills (not a primary focus, but indicative of logical process-building approach)

Education

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
