The Oncology Infusion Assistant (OIA) supports daily infusion operations as an unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP). This role works in collaboration with the nursing team to provide efficient patient throughput through routine, non-licensed, technical bedside care. This role is under the supervision of the Oncology Infusion Manager.
Education
Associate of Applied Science - Preferred
Experience
1-2 years of nursing assistance experience - Preferred. Clinical/medical experience is required – in lieu of experience, a bachelor's of science degree in biology and other lab-based sciences is accepted or Nursing Student who has completed fundamentals of nursing.
License & Certification

Core Job Functions
- Collects relevant clinical information through the use of medical equipment to obtain patient height, weight and vitals such as blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, pulse oximetry. Efficiently documents clinical information in the health systems electronic medical record (EMR) and immediately escalates any patient concerns to infusion nursing staff.
- Stocks supply closet with shipped medical supplies. Ensures nursing procedure carts are stocked with appropriate supplies. Follows unit inventory protocols. Helps maintain biohazard room, dispose and label hazardous waste per policy and standards.
- Supports infusion workflow by cleaning chairs after patient completes treatment.
- Supports patients with activities of daily living (ADL’s).
- Assists with infusion administrative support as directed by Oncology Infusion Manager.
