POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Resident Care (DRC) plays an essential leadership role at Hartwell Place. The DRC manages the day-to-day health care related administrative functions, provides direct wellness care oversite to residents in accordance to service plans, and ensures standard policies and procedures including state and federal regulations are followed. The DRC also assures timely identification of acute medical problems, contributes to the safety, comfort and wellbeing of residents, and is responsible for the infection prevention and control program (IPCP). This position will work closely with other Chicago Methodist Senior Services' personnel across the continuum of care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

NURSE ON DUTY

  • Consistently promotes interactions and activity that reflect the Mission and Values of the Organization while consistently demonstrating and ensuring person centered customer service.
  • Focuses on optimizing function of all residents through care practices that ensure the highest possible function and quality of life of the individual.
  • Serves as nurse on duty at least five shifts per week (with exception of vacations and illness). Covers open shifts when no other nurses are available.
  • Assists in the assessment and admission of new residents to ensure proper orders for diet, therapy, medication etc. are transcribed and communicated and a comprehensive service plan is developed.
  • Observes and evaluates residents’ medical, mental and emotional conditions. Reports and documents any significant changes to appropriate staff, ensures changes are appropriately service planned, and informs physician and family members according to procedures.

INFECTION PREVENTIONIST

  • Maintains current knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Updates policies and procedures to ensure alignment with current regulations (IDPH, OSHA, etc.)
  • Ensures that leadership and direct care staff (all departments) are well-trained through both regular in-services as well as in-the-moment training and that they demonstrate competency in infection prevention.
  • Develops infection prevention plan with input from community leadership and updates on an annual basis.
  • Performs regular surveillance to evaluate staff adherence to recommended infection prevention practices.
  • Investigates outbreaks to study potential causes as well as appropriateness of the response.

NURSE SUPERVISOR

  • Oversees care to ensure that residents are receiving appropriate care per service plan.
  • Prepares and oversees nursing schedule, coordinating with other nurses to ensure all shifts are covered.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with the executive director regarding problems, concerns, and identified needs, as well as recommendations for resolution.
  • Evaluates staff performance and contributes to performance reviews.
  • Ensures physician written and verbal orders are complete and promptly and accurately documented, communicated and service planned appropriately.
  • Ensures safety and security of residents through proper use of equipment and safety devices and by following proper fire, safety and disaster procedures.
  • Observes and reports needed repair and service of equipment and supplies.
  • Responds to emergencies by phone or text.
  • Prepares, schedules and facilitates resident service plan meeting conducted at least twice a year.
  • Provides ongoing education classes for staff to improve the care provided to residents.
  • Assists in the training and onboarding process of new team members (nurses and RAs) and reinforces training standards to maintain a high quality.
  • Provides explanation of new procedures and assistance to staff to ensure ongoing understanding and training.
  • Participates with developing, implementing and maintaining nursing policies and procedures to improve the standard of care for patients.
  • Oversees the conversion from hybrid to total electronic medical record, eliminating paper charts.
  • Audits resident charts at least quarterly to ensure compliance with regulations. Oversees all record-keeping processes and ensuring all necessary documents are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Participates in monthly quality improvement meetings, ensuring quality improvement documents are up to date and easily accessible to staff.
  • Prepares reports and other documentation as required by the executive director, government agencies, and insurance agencies. Disseminates information as appropriate and necessary.
  • Maintains the security of all medications, ensuring the availability of ordered medications, and reviewing documentation for accuracy.
  • Assists in keeping resident rooms and living environment neat, comfortable and safe. Keeps office and supply rooms presentable, professional and well organized.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be knowledgeable in current PC applications and use computer proficiently.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong aptitude for written and verbal correspondence.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Experienced working with persons living with dementia.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS and EXPERIENCE

  • This position requires a degree from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensed by the State of Illinois as a registered (RN).
  • Two years of professional nursing experience in geriatric, restorative and/or rehabilitative nursing is preferred.
  • Infection Prevention Training (within 6 months after hire).
  • On-the-job training provided.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $89,000.00 per year
