JOB SUMMARY:
The General Manager (GM) is a key leader for their assigned club, leading the club team to deliver an outstanding member experience, team member experience and operating results. Manage Company operations and department personnel. Motivate each department to reach their individual and overall club goal. Contribute to the growth of the Company by recruiting, training and developing new team and directors. Expand the profitability of the club by recruiting new members and retaining the existing. Inspire with focused vision and effective continuous training. Develop a quality club environment and ensure excellent customer service. Enforce current and any future policies and procedures established by the Company. The GM works directly with the Area Operations & Sales Director to deliver the Company’s business brand, member experience and business goals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Responsible for meeting monthly club quotas and personal sales quotas through direct selling and motivation of subordinate team.
- Attract new members and retain current members by maintaining club operations and assuring that the team completes and follows the Membership/ Fitness Consultant’s Job Description.
- Provide excellent customer service to all members and departments.
- Ensure team is well trained in customer service and safety by scheduling them with training personnel and/or training as needed.
- Supervise subordinate team.
- Schedule team member shifts, calculate current and anticipated payroll per budget requirements, and ensure all shifts are covered.
- On a weekly basis, read, listen to audio, watch videos or attend seminars that are industry related.
- Initiate new member sign ups by explaining promotions, membership paperwork and conducting club tours.
- Assist subordinate team with the closing of memberships by performing TOs.
- Recognize and work to maintain existing membership by greeting members with information on upcoming events and asking if questions may be answered or if assistance is needed.
- Maintain department supplies inventory by anticipating needs, placing orders with appropriate departments, and verifying delivery.
- Maintain the cleanliness and professional appearance of the club and the team through periodic club walk-throughs to evaluate cleanliness and maintenance needs.
- Ensure maintenance and repair of all facility and exercise equipment is done in a timely manner.
- Continuously enforce and inform all Company team of changes in policy, promotions, and programs by conducting daily and weekly team meetings and writing memos.
- Resolve and document all member and team member issues by researching policies and procedures and providing answers. Report progress or resolutions to Area Operations & Sales Director.
- Work effectively with Program Directors by scheduling, preparing, and planning club events.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Meet Company service objectives by training and developing team to responsibly service our members and memberships; ensures efficient communication to team; promotes thorough knowledge of all club operations and programs to all team.
- Achieve financial objectives by preparing and maintaining schedules and expenditures.
- Drive team results by counseling, performance management with team members, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
- Complete Company operational requirements by scheduling and assigning team members, cross-training team members, and following up on work results.
- Effectively follow through on membership issues, requests, and problems by making immediate decisions or seeking guidance from a supervisor.
- Promote Company programs and events by developing a club promotion plan to publicize events to members internally through posters, flyers, announcements, mail outs, and through the team.
- Ensure all Company team member policies and procedures are consistent by training, communicating, and familiarizing self and others.
- Contribute to and monitor programs and events by working cooperatively with the Program Directors to maximize effectiveness of each program.
- Attend and participate in required meetings and trainings as needed.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS – WHO YOU ARE:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- College degree in business, retail or hospitality desired.
- Desired knowledge, experience, and understanding of Fitness including equipment, personal training, and group fitness.
- 2-3 years’ experience in the health, fitness, and/or club environment and 2 years’ supervisory experience.
- Strong service orientation and desire to deliver an outstanding member experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work professionally and effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
- Work quality must be highly accurate, timely, and in accordance with company policy and procedures with a high regard for safety.
- Excellent task completion and follow-through skills and ability to maintain focus in a sometimes hectic and evolving environment.
- Strong operations experience and operations leadership skills with proven success in developing and promoting teams.
- Must demonstrate professionalism, cooperation, and ability to work well with all parties.
- Ability to travel occasionally for company meetings and based on business needs.
- Bilingual skills a plus.
- CPR/AED certification required within first 30 days of hire.
- Passion for fitness/health/wellness industry.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently required to walk and stand up to 8 hours/day and/or sit for an extended period of time. Team members may be exposed to cleaning chemicals or airborne particles and will be required to wear designated PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as directed. Team members are occasionally required to use hands and fingers for handling or feeling; occasional reach, push and pull with arms and hands; occasional climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and occasional reach and twist, including side-to-side movements. The team member may be required to occasionally lift, carry or move up to 25 pounds and may seldom be required to lift, carry or move 26-50 pounds.
