The mission of Blackstone Valley Prep is to prepare every scholar to achieve their goals for college and the world beyond. BVP's scholars will graduate empowered as learners, individuals, and community members to access opportunities and break down barriers.
Apart from academics, we believe that preparing scholars for the world beyond also means experiencing the diversity of the world we live in today. Our network is designed to be diverse, accepting students from the four communities that share a region but differ substantially in their socio-economic, racial, and ethnic demographics. We seek to create a staff with a similarly diverse set of backgrounds and experiences that reflect that of our students, families, and communities. In addition, a School Counselor is expected to:
- Deliver individual and group counseling services to support students' social, emotional, and behavioral health and well being.
- Works with school-based response team to support and respond to scholar behavior as determined by school leadership team
- Provide ongoing consultation to students, teachers, parents, and administration with respect to learning differences, social-emotional development, emotional literacy, behavioral functioning, and conflict resolution.
- Assist teachers and staff to develop and implement differentiated instruction and classroom management practices that meet individual student needs.
- Implement and maintain an inclusive model of service delivery through cooperation, collaboration, and partnerships with school based administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
- Lead school culture programming and staff committees for school-wide behavior and scholar support
- Plan and lead professional development in conjunction with school leadership team on scholar support and behavior management for teachers and staff
- RI Certification as a School Counselor by start date
- Experience in diverse public school preferred
- Bilingual candidates preferred
- CPI certification or willingness to participate in training preferred
- Refer to the Teacher STEP Scale
