General Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the recovery support specialist will provide routine Club House staffing and assist in new client recruitment, activity leadership, planning and development, transporting clients in program van, and preparing meals. The adolescent clubhouse model is a part of a larger statewide effort to support youth ages 12-17 recovering from substance abuse addiction by building a new support system that fosters overall wellness and a drug free lifestyle. Extensive family support and life skill development are a part of this system.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Assist with recruitment of youth into the program. Includes recruitment in the community, in classrooms, over the phone, and interacting with youth and school staff
  2. Coordinate, develop, and plan recreational and academic activities with Senior Peer Leadership Specialist.
  3. Implement activity curriculum as directed by the Senior Peer Leadership Specialist and/or Director.
  4. Respond to member needs during program hours from 3pm – 8pm Monday through Friday and 12pm-6pm on Saturdays for at least 40 hours a week.
  5. Interact well and connect with youth recovering from substance abuse addiction age 12-17 years old.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  1. High School education (HS diploma or GED) required.
  2. Experience working with youth is preferred.
  3. Must have excellent communication skills and be reliable to arrive on time, address conflicts, work as a team, and be prepared to run activities.
  4. Must be available for 40 hours a week during program hours Monday through Friday 3pm to 8pm and Saturday 12pm – 6pm with occasional field trips.
  5. Experience leading sports activities and providing academic assistance preferred.
  6. An ideal candidate will have experience guiding or mentoring youth or peers working to stay in recovery from substance abuse.
  7. Ability to communicate well with parents, children, community members, professionals and work with a variety of personalities and situations.
  8. Sensitivity to and interest in working with youth and families recovering from substance abuse addiction required.
  9. Driver’s license and a good driving record are required.
